Small Animal Rotating Internship
Program Information
WVRC, part of the Ethos network of specialty & referral practices, services the greater Milwaukee and Southeastern Wisconsin region with locations in Waukesha, Grafton and Somers, Wisconsin. Our Waukesha hospital is both a VECCS Certified Level 1 hospital and a recognized American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care provisional trauma center. Services at WVRC include 24/7 ER, critical care, surgery, internal medicine, neurology, ophthalmology, dentistry, oncology, anesthesiology, cardiology, and dermatology. WVRC has a clinical trials coordinator and participates in clinical trials with Ethos Discovery and other programs. A branch of ZN Laboratories will be moving on-site, in 2021. Our clinic is equipped with a complete in-house lab for point of care &after hours results, digital radiology, cage side ultrasound, telemetry, mechanical ventilation, fluoroscopy, MRI & CT.
Our rotating internship will include core rotations in surgery, internal medicine, critical care, neurology, anesthesiology, and ER. This internship provides a strong balanced experience. While on ER rotations, interns benefit from the same training our ER focused interns have been receiving since 2007, including primary case responsibility, 24-hour mentorship, and learning to be the primary surgeon on ER surgery cases. All services at WVRC see strong and diverse caseloads, using an exceptional team of employees, and we are well known for our focus on providing excellent care and client service. Our interns become an integral part of our team and our program allows us to provide a well-rounded experience. The program will prepare interns for residency programs or other specialty internships, a career in emergency medicine or strong general practice. Many of our current ER DVMs have been hired on from a previous internship at WVRC.
We are looking for interns who have a passion for high quality, clinically based learning with a large, varied caseload and possess strong communication skills. We encourage all levels of applicants, including recent graduates, current interns, and general practitioners, who would like the additional training our internship provides, to apply.
