Medical Oncology Specialty Internship
Program Description
A new medical oncology internship is being offered this year at the Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Hospital. We are a fully equipped multi-specialty hospital where providing state-of-the-art patient care is one of the higher priorities as well as providing advanced training for individuals that are seeking specialty certification. We are proud to be part of Ethos Veterinary Health, a group of hospitals that focus on advancing veterinary science and are passionate about encouraging professional development for all individuals. Ethos Discovery is part of the Ethos Veterinary Health group and MVRH has a strong collaboration with Ethos Discovery that allows us to participate in clinical research and help advance the science of veterinary medicine.
The oncology department consists of two board-certified medical oncologists as well as 4 dedicated oncology technicians, an oncology liason and two veterinary assistants. Currently the oncology service is a 5-6 day a week service that focuses on seeing referral appointments from the surrounding community. The remainder of our schedule is seeing follow-up visits for diagnostics and on-going treatment.
The program will be able to be tailored to individual applicants depending on their particular area of interest and career goals. For those interns that are interested in pursuing a research project, there will be time off clinics available to complete a project (4-8 weeks depending on the scope of the project). Interns will be able to collaborate with Ethos Discovery in order to help develop and execute their research project. For those interns that are interested in exposure to radiation oncology, there will be the option of doing a rotation with one of the Ethos network hospitals that has a radiation therapy facility.
